The composition is interesting, but there is a big problem with the perspective. I guess you wanted to use a view to give the tree a gigantic nature, which is to say a view from the ground. However, the house or shack at the base of the trunk is on a flat and horizontal ground, which gives the impression that the tree is almost at the horizontal.

I think you should make the trunk bigger at its base and see if it's better. However I think it will make more sense to "verticalize" the tree.

Hi orsvend!

I agree with Meteroskies about the perspective. :)

Here's my paintover try...
tree.jpg

Might be too much at once, but try to take it one small step at a time okay? :) Hope it is clear enough though...
Mainly, just use references and play with the colors can change how visually interesting it is. :) And please notice, I didn't fix the perspective there. Just kinda hack it so it looks more believable in minimal amount of work. ;)

Hope it helped even a bit! :) Although feel free to ignore me, it's your art after all! :D

Great image so far, love the texture and detail you have for the tree.

For the background I either see it as a large tree out on a hill or may be a secret house hidden away deep in a forest.

Here's two quick paintovers one with a simple sky and the other in a forest.

Hope that helps a little, can't wait to see the finished image.

Thank you!! I've decided to try and alter the foreground elements, so everything follows the intended perspective of the tree, using Dm7's helpful tips about light bleeding trough the leaves and probobly baking it into some kind of forest sorrounding. Ill post the finished one sometime later this week =) Awesome paintovers!

THanks again!

I totally agree with the perspective, man!

orsvend, you shou try to work at the house perspective too, unless your intention is to make the tree appears horizontal. Interesting composition, man, keep it up!

:13: Whoa orsvend!
That's a huge improvement! The composition is now awesome! Love the "tilted" feeling to it.. kinda makes it bit more surreal and dreamy yet realistic ^^ I just love that.
Great use of colors and values! I don't have anything else to comment :) it really looks great! :D
