So yea, this is what my second topic on the forums, yay I'm on the ball now lol. Anyways I have been noticing something with "Concept art" of games like call of duty or even better modern warfare. Well I'm going to be blunt with it even if it means sounding like a asshole, its not concept art really. Now, hear me out I am not saying it is not beautiful, it is effing amazing. The problem is it is more literal art than concept art. Depending on what source you use the definition may change a bit but the core seems to remain the same which usually falls around "convey a visual representation of a design, idea, and/or mood." Yet if we look concept art for games like call of duty or modern ware, your really not conceptualizing anything, but instead you are literally imitating real life military and all.
Now moving on to another thing I think is slowly starting to blur together is the line between a actual illustrated piece of story art and concept art pieces. Now this is something I strongly feel that going to sites like conceptart.org really help the blurring of the line between the two sometimes. No disrespect to conceptart.org or anyone, but I think what also helps add to the blur is that face a illustration can be finished at different levels or rendering which one can easily be that of concept art. Well this is just my thoughts anyways. |
