The Creature Lab is a weekly activity that puts your monster creation skills to the test against other artists. Each week there will be a topic and description of a beastie, and it is open to as many artists that want to participate. At the end of each week each artists' rendition will be put up and a poll will be created and everyone will vote for the creature they wanna see forever immortalized in the Inkblade Beastiarium. Good luck to all participants and may the best creature win!
Creature Lab #04: "Ladies Night"
This week you get a choice between 3 lovely ladies of mythology! This is a special "themed" Creature Lab, which will come around every once in awhile. You pick between the 3 description links I will give below. Remember to follow the guidelines but more importantly, unleash your creativity!
Name: Banshee Location: Haunted Corridors Description: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banshee Banshees are phantoms, so naturally the image should have some ghostly quality to it!
Name: Harpy Location: Jungles Description: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harpy Remember you can use any kind of bird as part of the Harpy, so use that wisely!
Name: Siren/Mermaid Location: Oceans/Lakes Description: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siren I wrote mermaid in there too because alot of the older mythology has sirens as having bird parts. Since there's already a bird inspired creature in this lab, I say make them more of the sea creature variety! Note that this doesn't mean they HAVE to have fins...
So there's the 3 choices for Ladies Night, our 3 femme fatales, and now you must come up with a fun and fresh way to depict these mythological villianesses. I provided the links, but feel free to research other depictions of the creatures for inspiration or direction, but m ake sure you make your OWN rendition! Good luck all and have fun!
ACTIVITY START DATE: THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 1st, ends SEPTEMBER THURSDAY 8th, all submissions must be turned into this thread by that date. Also, all WIPs should be posted in this thread! Starting with this activity, all finished entries MUST be in COLOR since it will be part of a full color manual. Also, a note about backgrounds: they are NOT required and I also encourage you to do a simple one or none at all, considering there will not be a background featured in the manual. The focus here is on the creature ONLY. |
