CREATURE LAB #002: RUMBLEBEE

The Creature Lab is a weekly activity that puts your monster creation skills to the test against other artists. Each week there will be a topic and description of a beastie, and it is open to as many artists that want to participate. At the end of each week each artists' rendition will be put up and a poll will be created and everyone will vote for the creature they wanna see forever immortalized in the Inkblade Beastiarium. Good luck to all participants and may the best creature win!

Creature Lab #02: Rumblebee

Your job is to depict the Rumblebee, and the finished product MUST follow the physical guidelines mentioned below, but other than that it is completely free to your imagination! Is it more of a streamlined aerial menace or a well built killing machine (like a bumblebee)? Is it translucent, shiny or some odd combination, and how many wings does it have? The choice is yours, so have fun and unleash your creativity! At the end of the week, a poll will be created and the victor will be chosen, and their monster added to the almighty Beastiarium.

Name: Rumblebee
Location: Multiple (Wherever there is pollen)
Description: Honeybees can sometimes be little pests, but it's a whole different story with Rumblebees. These giant flying insects are highly aggressive and territorial. Without an antidote, a Rumblebees venom can kill a man in less than 10 minutes, if the puncture wound doesn't kill him first. The key to defeating these creatures is to cut off their dangerous stingers, but their quickness and agility makes this task extremely difficult.
Unlike everyday honeybees, the labyrinth-like hives of Rumblebees lies within caverns, and it's said the honey like substance they create can cure several ailments, and because of the danger involved in retrieving it, it fetches a high price.

Physical Traits:
    • Design must be along the lines of ordinary bees, wasps, and/or hornets, with your own twist of course, a little creativity goes a long way!
    • Large pronounced stinger and/or mandibles
    • Freedom to choose color(s) and pattern
    • Size limitations: These regular Rumblebees are about the size of an eagle or hawk, with a similar wingspan
    .

ACTIVITY START DATE: TUESDAY AUGUST 15th, ends MONDAY AUGUST 22nd, all submissions must be turned into this thread by that date. Also, all WIPs should be posted in this thread! Starting with this activity, all finished entries MUST be in COLOR since it will be part of a full color manual. Also, a note about backgrounds: they are NOT required and I also encourage you to do a simple one or none at all, considering there will not be a background featured in the manual. The focus here is on the creature only.

@Vpunk- Cool start so far vpunk, that was quick! Also very interesting posture for a bee, makes it seem more menacing i think.

@Dm7- I like the thumbs, while it is more of a normal look, I think it's too early to think that way. There's tons of ways to make it more unique. For example, you can think of an animal/bug/whatever not related to a bee in any way and incorporate it somehow into it and it would make it look very interesting, especially when the thing is extremely different. Also you can always exaggerate certain parts of the body to make it look other worldly.

Ill try to have some thumbs up later today :)

For now it's going to be Creature Lab. We could launch the same activity for environments, but we don't have topics for gears yet (if that's what you're asking :ugeek: )
