Believe it or not, the point to art, any art--music, illustration, literature, sculpture, movies--is to convey an emotion, thought, idea, or all of the above. So the message of any piece of art is its foundation not just some "mere detail".
I want to learn characters, poses, design and stuff now, so I am going to do CHOW and character forge when I can. And I'm only accept char commissions, so forcing myself to learn it, need to stop hiding behind environments for now.

MOAR CONTRAZTTTT! More seriously, the character design is very nice. I don't think that the fact that the hands look so undefined is a mistake, however I think they are a bit too small. What bothers me most is the lighting. There's this super bright light in the background sky and a very clear bounced light from the ground, yet nothing on the ground is contrasted. I'd expect some clear bright edges here and there to justify the bounced orange light at least. Keep up the awesomeness
