Creature Lab #01: Hellhound

Your job is to depict the Hellhound, and the finished product MUST follow the physical guidelines mentioned below, but other than that it is completely free to your imagination! Does the Hellhound emit flames from its body? Does it have strange unworldy markings on its fur? The choice is yours, so have fun and unleash your creativity! At the end of the week, a poll will be created and the victor will be chosen, and their monster added to the almighty Beastiarium.

Name: Hellhound
Location: Clawfield Ruins
Description: A rabid doglike creature has been seen wandering the Clawfield Ruins, mostly seen at night. It is unknown whether this beast is natural to this world or some hellish dimension but it has been known to attack and devour any hapless person or animal that is unfortunate enough to stray into its territory.

Okay so after the extension the first activity has now come to a close. I believe we have 4 (sorry Nakadai) finished pieces, so here they are. Vote for which one you believe best represents the "Hellhound" creature and deserves the first spot into the Beastarium. Good luck all!

@jsn: your design is very "classical". Not that it's a bad thing, but it lacks a bit of originality. Plus, the silhouette in the background looks very weird, like it's a two-parts wolf with a rod in place of the spine which link the back and the front. Also, the whole picture lacks a bit of bright values in my opinion.

@Lune: I really like this design of yours. The skull-head especially. However, I regret the weird looking legs. They look like they are two assembled and distinct parts. I also regret the lack of texture on the skin, along with the volume (the legs look very much like cylinders). A bit more contrast would have been a great thing to give more punch and make the hellhound pop up.

@Jakey: very impressive texture. The design looks very good, but very massive while it should have been something thiner, shaped for speed. You also hid the back in the shadows, which is a pity for it could have been a very interesting part to detail.

@Nakadai: very funny design, but like for Jakey, it doesn't quite look like it's fast. Beside that, I don't really have anything to say.

I'm wondering if Pui's piece wouldn't have been welcome in the entries...
Anyway, if Pui isn't in this one, my vote goes to Lune.

Also keep in mind lions are fast and very muscular, hell even Elephants are pretty fast for the enormous size. I did the lighting as such because I wanted the feeling of it coming out of the shadows, but it could be interesting to see the whole back.

Pui never made a finished piece unfortunately, and only submitted a wip =/ Wouldve been cool to see a finished product from him

Congrats to Lune, your mighty Hellhound will be the first to be inducted into the Inkblade Bestiary, I will lock this thread and work on creating a "Hall of Beasties" type thread where it will show all the winners. Good job everyone, hopefully we can keep this fun activity going!
